Iconic Movie Posters -1

A movie poster is perhaps the first look (and in the olden days, perhaps the only look) the audience has at what they should expect from a new movie. Now of course, we have teasers, trailers to trailers and what not.

In this article, let’s take a look at some of the striking imagery in iconic movie posters.

A Clockwork Orange (1971)

From maverick Stanley Kubrick, this movie was genius, divisive & controversial.

The poster is a work of art, perfectly showing the deranged state of mind of Alex, and his ultraviolence.

Tenet (2020)

This film from modern master Christopher Nolan proved to be a mind bender once again.

And this poster fully reflects the notion of forward and inverted time that the movie dwells into.

Ardh Satya (The Half Truth) (1983)

This hard hitting film by Govind Nehalini, one of Indian Cinema’s leading directors in the parallel movement, has an equally hard hitting poster. Harsh, raw, bubbling with anger. Like the film.

Dil Se (1998)

This beautiful, poignant film from Mani Ratnam, about love and its seven stages, and the tragedy that is the fate of its lovers, has a heartbreaking poster, all the emotions in the film coming together in one still image.

2046 (2004)

2046, auteur Wong Kar Wai’s seminal work, has a gorgeous, gorgeous poster, evoking the deep reds and saturated greens of the movie, with its leads in a passionate, wistful embrace that is there, but perhaps, isn’t.
